This slogan was meant to represent the enthusiasm of America's youth against what he felt was complacency (smugness) of government during the Eisenhower years. Kennedy's domestic achievements include-
Kennedy also campaigned for African American support during his election in 1960. Although hesitant at first to push for Civil Rights because he did not want to lose the support of Southern democrats, eventually the violence got so bad in the South that Kennedy responded.
